Nadia Comaneci is a Romanian gymnast (born on the 12th of November, 1961, in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej [now OnestiGheorghe Gheorghiu Dej [now Onesti] Romania). She was the first gymnast to score a perfect 10 during an Olympic occasion. Bela Karolyi later Romanian Gymnastics Coach, came across Comaneci as she was only the age of six. Her first competition was at the national junior championships of 1969 placing 13th and she took the title in 1970. In 1972, during the communist nations' meet for junior athletes prior to the Olympics, she bagged three gold awards. And in 1973, and '74 she was the overall junior champion.
